Livestreaming

Production-ready live streaming studio — multi-host video, chat, polls, overlays, guest call-in, sponsorship, and advertising, fully branded and ready to use.

HotMic delivers a production-ready Live Streaming Studio to your team on day one. Every capability your creators need to run an interactive broadcast — multi-host video, chat, polls, overlays, guest call-in, sponsorship, and advertising — is provisioned, branded, and ready to use. The studio is ready to be fully customized to customers' requirements.

Creators go live from the Creator Studio (web portal), and viewers watch through your iOS, Android, or web application via the HotMic SDKs.

Streaming Modes

  • Easy Mode (Browser-Based): Hosts stream directly from the Creator Studio using their camera and microphone. Supports up to 6 hosts on screen at once, multi-host layouts, screen sharing, media overlays, and all interactive features.
  • Advanced Mode (RTMP): Hosts use external software like OBS, StreamYard, or vMix to send video to HotMic via RTMP. Best for professional setups with custom scenes and multi-camera workflows.
  • Restreaming: Creators can add credentials for other streaming platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, X, LinkedIn, and more) and broadcast to all of them simultaneously alongside their HotMic stream. Credentials are saved per creator so future broadcasts can be restreamed with a single toggle.

Stream Components

Every broadcast can include the following elements, configured by the host:

Creator Audio & Video — Host and co-host camera/microphone feeds with layout management and quality adaptation.

Chat — Real-time audience chat with moderation, emoji reactions, mentions, and pinned messages.

Guest Call-In — Viewers can request to join the broadcast as live video or audio guests.

Q&A — Producers and creators share a question queue, viewers submit their own, and everyone upvotes or downvotes to surface the best material — with full moderation and AI-driven submission filtering.

Overlays & Graphics — Lower thirds, logos, countdown timers, custom HTML overlays, and banners managed in real time.

Polls, Points & Leaderboards — Interactive audience polls with scoring, correct answers, and real-time leaderboards.

AI Producer — AI-generated questions and prompts (hooks) displayed on screen during the broadcast, with autoplay and manual modes.

Media Integration — Background images, uploaded video, screen sharing, and stock media from Getty Images and AP Images.

Moderator Tools — Automated AI chat moderation, manual message review, user blocking, and a dedicated moderation dashboard.

Background Removal — AI-powered background replacement so hosts can swap their on-camera background for a custom image, a library option, or a blur — no green screen required.

Templates — Composition templates that define how host video is arranged on screen, with off-the-shelf options and full customization at the organization level.

Transcription — Real-time, timestamped transcripts of every broadcast for closed captioning, faster editing, search, and compliance.

Stream Lifecycle

A stream progresses through these states:

| State | Description | |-------|-------------| | Scheduled | Stream created, Composer Service warming up, host configuring settings. | | Live | Broadcasting to viewers. All interactive features active. | | On Break | Host pauses — viewers see a break screen while the host remains connected. | | Ended | Broadcast finished. VOD recording available for replay. | | VOD | Video-on-demand playback of the completed broadcast. |

Infrastructure

The Broadcasting System is powered by:

  • OpenTok/Vonage — WebRTC video sessions for host-to-host communication.
  • Composer Service — AWS EC2 GPU instances (g4dn.xlarge) running headless Chrome and FFmpeg for real-time video composition.
  • HLS/RTMP Output — Live stream delivery via CDN with optional multi-destination RTMP forwarding.
  • HotMic real-time messaging platform — Real-time control events for overlays, banners, countdown, and break mode.
  • NeMo Transcription — Optional live speech-to-text powered by NVIDIA NeMo.
  • Banners — Banner ads during broadcasts.
  • Recording — VOD recordings from completed broadcasts.
  • API Reference — Stream management endpoints.
  • Webhooks — Stream lifecycle event notifications.
