Recording

Multi-host video recording sessions in the browser. Recordings are captured and stored for editing, publishing, and distribution — a separate system from live streaming.

The Recording System enables multi-host video recording sessions directly in the browser. Unlike live streaming, recordings are captured and stored for later editing, publishing, and distribution. This is a separate system from the Live Streaming Platform with its own technology stack and workflow.

How Recording Works

  1. A host creates a new recording from the Dashboard, selecting a title and canvas size.
  2. The host (and optionally co-hosts) join a video session in the browser.
  3. The host arranges participants in a video composition using the canvas editor.
  4. When ready, the host starts recording. A countdown synchronizes all participants.
  5. During recording, the system captures two parallel outputs:
    • Composed video — A single video file combining all participants according to the canvas layout, recorded client-side and streamed to S3.
    • Raw tracks — Individual audio and video tracks for each participant, recorded server-side.
  6. The host can pause, resume, stop, or restart the recording at any time.
  7. After stopping, the composed video is available for immediate playback, and raw tracks are synced for use in the Post-Production Editor.

Recording Sections

  • Creating a Recording — How to create and configure a new recording session.
  • Recording Controls — Start, pause, resume, and stop controls during a session.
  • Co-Hosts — Inviting and managing additional hosts.
  • Hooks — Topic prompts and storylines producers and programmers push to creators for each recording.
  • Review Process — Review the take and route it through the custom workflow your organization has configured.
  • Raw Tracks & Processing — Individual participant tracks and post-recording processing.

Canvas Presets

Recordings support multiple canvas sizes for different output formats:

  • 1080p Landscape 1920 x 1080 (16:9) — Standard widescreen.
  • 1080p Portrait 1080 x 1920 (9:16) — Mobile-first / social media.
  • 720p Landscape 1280 x 720 (16:9) — Smaller file size.
  • 720p Portrait 720 x 1280 (9:16) — Mobile-first / smaller.
  • Custom User-defined resolution and aspect ratio — Special requirements.

The canvas size is set at creation time and cannot be changed during a recording.
