Clip Workflows

Every clip in HotMic moves through a defined workflow on its way to being published. The path a clip takes depends on where it originated and how much editorial input it needs before going live. This page outlines the supported workflows.

Workflow 1: Creator Direct Submit

The fastest path. A creator records a clip — or finishes a live stream or recording — and submits the take for publishing without sending it through the editor.

  1. Creator finishes a recording, live stream, or upload.
  2. Creator marks the take as ready and submits it.
  3. The clip enters the review queue with the In Review state in Clip Manager.
  4. A producer, programmer, or admin reviews, approves, and publishes.
  5. Approved clips route to the customer's CMS via Webhooks and APIs.

Best for: routine creator content where editing isn't needed.

Workflow 2: Editor → Review → Publish

The standard path when a clip needs polish before publishing.

  1. Creator (or producer) opens the source content in the Video Editor.
  2. The clip is trimmed, styled, captioned, and otherwise refined.
  3. Creator submits the edited clip for review. State moves to In Review.
  4. Reviewers leave timestamped notes and either approve, reject, or move the clip into Action Required for revision.
  5. Once approved, the clip is Published and routed to its destination.

Best for: content that needs editorial polish, sponsor lower-thirds, captions, or any pre-publish styling.

Workflow 3: AI Clipping → Review → Publish

Used when AI Clipping is enabled. Short-form clips are generated automatically from longer-form source content.

  1. A creator completes a live stream or recording.
  2. The content is sent to the configured AI clipping provider (e.g., Opus or a customer-owned model).
  3. Suggested clips return to HotMic in the In Review state.
  4. Producers and programmers review each suggestion alongside the rest of in-flight content.
  5. Approved clips are Published and routed to the customer's CMS.

Best for: scaling short-form content production from long-form material without manual cutting.

Workflow 4: Revision Loop

Any clip can re-enter editing if reviewers leave feedback.

  1. Reviewer rejects or requests changes on a clip in In Review.
  2. Clip moves to Action Required.
  3. Creator addresses the notes in the editor and resubmits.
  4. Clip returns to In Review for another pass.
  5. Cycle repeats until the clip is approved or rejected entirely.

Revisions can happen on any of the three workflows above.

Clip Lifecycle States

All workflows move clips through the same four states tracked in the Video Editor and Clip Manager:

  • Drafts Work in progress, not yet submitted.
  • In Review Submitted and awaiting reviewer action.
  • Action Required Reviewer notes or rejection that the creator needs to address.
  • Published Approved and routed to the destination.
