Advanced Mode
Use third-party streaming software like OBS, Streamlabs, or vMix to send video to HotMic via RTMP while keeping chat, polls, and audience engagement on HotMic.
Advanced Mode lets you use third-party streaming software like OBS, Streamlabs, or vMix to send video to your HotMic broadcast via RTMP. This gives you full control over your video production while still using HotMic for distribution, chat, polls, and audience engagement.
If you are not familiar with third-party streaming tools, we recommend using Easy Mode, which uses your browser camera and microphone directly.
Setting Up Advanced Mode
- Open your stream in the Creator Studio.
- Click the Settings icon below the video area to open the stream setup menu.
- Select Advanced Mode.
- The Creator Studio displays your Server URL and Stream Key.
Connecting Your Streaming Software
- Copy the Server URL and Stream Key from the Creator Studio.
- Open your streaming software (OBS, Streamlabs, vMix, etc.).
- Go to the stream settings in your software and select Custom RTMP as the service.
- Paste the Server URL into the Server field.
- Paste the Stream Key into the Stream Key field.
- Start streaming from your software.
Your video will appear in the Creator Studio preview. You are not live yet — you must click Go Live in the Creator Studio to start broadcasting to viewers.
RTMP Forwarding
HotMic can also forward your broadcast via RTMP to external platforms like YouTube Live, Facebook Live, or Twitch. This allows you to broadcast to multiple platforms simultaneously. RTMP forwarding is configured in the stream settings.
Using HotMic Overlays with External Tools
When using Advanced Mode, you can still use HotMic overlays (chat feed, polls, banners) in your streaming software:
- Open the Graphics tab in the Creator Studio.
- Find the overlay you want (Chat, Pinned Chat, Poll, Banner).
- Click Copy URL to copy the overlay's browser source URL.
- In your streaming software, add a Browser Source and paste the URL.
- The overlay renders in real time within your software, updating automatically.
For detailed OBS setup instructions, see Using OBS.

- Monitor your streaming software for dropped frames or connection issues.
- You can switch between Easy Mode and Advanced Mode from the stream setup menu at any time before going live.
- For more technical details, see Creator Audio & Video in the Platform documentation.
