Two Microphones (Mac)

Combine two microphones into a single virtual input on macOS using the Audio MIDI Setup utility.

If you have two microphones (e.g., a USB mic and a headset) and want to use both during a broadcast, you can combine them into a single virtual input on macOS using the Audio MIDI Setup utility.

Creating an Aggregate Device

  1. Open Finder and go to Go > Utilities.
  2. Open Audio MIDI Setup.
  3. Click the + button in the bottom-left corner of the Audio Devices window.
  4. Select Create Aggregate Device.
  5. Rename the new device to something recognizable (e.g., "Dual Mics").
  6. Check the Use box next to each microphone you want to combine.

The aggregate device now contains both microphone inputs as a single device.

Using the Aggregate Device in HotMic

  1. Open the Creator Studio and go to the stream setup menu.
  2. In the Microphone dropdown, select your newly created aggregate device.
  3. Both microphones are now active and their audio is combined into a single input.

This works in both Easy Mode and Advanced Mode.

Tips

  • The aggregate device is a macOS system feature and persists across applications.
  • If you disconnect and reconnect a microphone, you may need to re-check it in Audio MIDI Setup.
  • This technique is useful for co-located hosts sharing a single computer — each person can use their own microphone.
  • On Windows, similar functionality is available through third-party virtual audio software like VoiceMeeter or Virtual Audio Cable.
